I'm glad abc agreed to have the show start off in Emily's home town. It's close to her daughter, friends and family. We get a little peek into real Emily...who I am liking more and more.
We start things off at the Bachelor pad, "It's like the Frat house from hell... on steroids." Well said. Chris drops off the first date card and jock Ryan scores the first one on one date. She arrives looking cute in her slouchy sweater and skinny jeans (her mom clothes, she says). He's wondering what cool adventure they're heading to, but she's a smart girl and sets him up for unloading groceries at her house, running errands and making cookies for her daughters soccer game. Welcome to real life... minus the cameras. Afterward she keeps him in the car while she delivers juice boxes and cookies to Ricki and her teammates. That night they dolled up (Emily in a bright red, one armed tight mini dress and some extra sparkly heels) and went to dinner while the entire city watched from the sidewalks. Over dinner Emily asked some great questions, making me realize that she really is a solid gal, but not convincing me that Ryan is a keeper. Emily saw some potential though and gave him a rose. Then off they went to their own "private" concert, just them and a bunch of crazy Bachelorette fans. Pretty sure the million Iphone cameras pointed at you would suck the romance right out.
Next is the group date: a bunch of guys all head to the theater and act excited when they hear they'll be performing with Miss Piggy and Kermit the Frog. Sweet Charlie, who had been hurt badly in an accident resulting in traumatic head injuries, is feeling insecure about performing, especially doing his assigned comedy bit. Emily tells him not to worry and puts him some where else. I like his vulnerability. He's still sticking out as a favorite, especially after his sweet response to Miss Piggys questioning. After singing with the Muppets they all had a little party. Emily dressed up in a pretty rockin' black dress (the entire back of it was this sexy black lace). Jeff, Mr Big hair, has grabbed her attention by his lack of attention. DJ Jazzy Stevie did some slow dancin' with her. Cologne thinks way too much of himself and is totally annoying. And the rose goes to Mr Big Hair.
Next one on one date is with Joe...who looks like either Matthew McConaughey or Dawson (from Dawson's Creek). Ha! Emily said she thought he looked like Matthew McConaughey (MnM) too! He goes to pick her up in a fluorescent pink and blue plaid shirt and meets her at their private jet. Off they go to her home state of West Virginia. I've been there and it's GORGEOUS! They go to some resort there called the GreenBriar and after wandering around for a while they head to the pool. Not sure if Emily's bikini is a swimsuit or French maid lingerie. Afterward MnM waits for Emily in the UGLIEST decorated room I've ever seen! Over dinner she asks him some questions which he doesn't really answer at all. With tears in her eyes she informs him that he wasn't gonna get a rose. As his getaway car drove away she watched their fireworks alone.
After getting ready at home, in her one shouldered purple Miss America dress, she said goodnight to Ricki and took off to the rose ceremony. The alone times begin. Ryan gives her a novel he wrote while Mr Dad Tony (who's totally not as cute as Mr Dad Doug) waited a few feet away. Awkward. Cologne annoys us all by his cockiness and big words. And the roses go to Cologne, Race Driver Arie, pony tailed Michael, Nate, Sean, Squinty eyed Chris, Mr Dad Doug, Travis, Mr Dad Tony, John, Allessandro, Cutie Patootie Charlie, The Mushroom Man Alejandro, and DJ Jazzy Stevie. Favorites so far: Charlie and Doug. How about you?
