When I lived in UT, Liberty Park was to be avoided. It was usually just full of homeless people and drug issues...BUT SLC has done quite the facelift on this old park. It is great now. It's got playgrounds, splashgrounds, duck pond, and aviary and more. Of course all my kids really wanted to do was play in the sand pit.
