A few weeks ago the fam went to the pumpkin patch and each of us picked out a pumpkin. The boys were eagerly awaiting the night that they would get to take a knife to them. They talked about what kind of face they would carve... scary eyes, funny nose, lots of teeth, etc. Well, with daddy getting home a bit late most nights, mommy was a bit nervous to do the whole pumpkin carving craziness without him. She had images of pumpkin guts everywhere, little people running around with knives in their hands while an absolutely beside herself baby girl was screaming for a milking. And you thought Halloween was scary. But one night this mama suddenly got some courage, or was just incredibly tired of hearing her boys BEG for it, and decided we'd give it a try. Of course it had to be in simpler form. They could pick ONE pumpkin (out of the 6) to carve and we'd all carve it together.

Of course they picked the biggest of the bunch. It happened to be Ty's. I sawed off the top and let them go to work gettin' those guts out.

Pretty darn gross. I usually leave that part to the hubs... so wished he was there. BUT I even got my hands a bit dirty and picked out the seeds for some pumpkin seed roastin'.

Then they moved on to the main event, the carving. Ty designed the face and then they all started carving.

Yes, I even let Cason have a (butter) knife. He went to town stabbing the thing in the back over and over. Should I be worried? :) As for Tess, she didn't seem to excited about the whole thing. After a little bit of screaming she fell asleep in her swing watching it all.

And wa la! Our one and only carved pumpkin. We love him. Stay tuned for what will happen to pumpkins 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6!
